Jeff Starts Kindergarten

Wednesday was Jefferson's first day of Kindergarten.
He's been so excited for this day and it felt like it took forever for it to come (all the other grades and schools had already started). He had his Kindergarten assessment the week before and his teacher was very impressed with how well he did. He was also given a homework assignment, to make a me. Jeff did a great job coming up with the things to use and how to decorate his me. We even put a picture of SpongeBob on the shirt to match his.

Jeff is in afternoon kindergarten, so on Wednesday we headed off to the school. I was just as excited as he was for this day to come, yet for some reason as I gave him a hug and sent him through the doors I got a little emotional. Jeff has always been a mama's boy and has always been with me. He's very independent and loves structure so I don't worry a bit about him at school, in fact it's the perfect thing for this smart little boy. But he's not so little any more, and I think it got to me. Since I teach preschool and the past two years Jeff has just stayed home and attended both classes (last year I taught three classes and he did go to his friend, Brysen's house every Tues/Thurs. morning just to get a break from preschool, but he was there for my younger class and his own), counting my class this year it is his fifth time attending Miss Tami's Preschool! No wonder he's ready for Kindergarten! Unfortunately I do preschool in the morning, so he is still here this year while I teach, but as my "helper". Sometimes he will go watch TV or do something else while I'm teaching, but he's not the best at entertaining himself and likes to be where I am. Next year will be great when he's in first grade all day.
So far Jeff loves kindergarten. He comes home (on the bus with Lily) everyday saying it was the best day and recapping everything he did. I love it! It's so nice to have him doing something challenging and exciting, that he loves. Hopefully he continues his good attitude the rest of the year!
