Day three of our adventure.
We woke to some visitors. Late Wednesday/early Thursday morning Tom's mom, his sister, Maren and her girls, Charlotte and Lorelei arrived. The kids were excited to see their cousins.
Again, we made lunches in the room to take with us on our adventure.
Our first stop was Four Corners. The kids thought it was cool and they enjoyed looking at all the venues there. They each got a souvenir while there.
Here's our whole group.
That deserves a kiss.
After Four Corners we hit some construction on the one lane high way and were at a stand still for quite a while. Since it was lunch time, I jumped out of our van, ran some PB&J sanwiches back to Maren's vehicle, they traded for some oranges and applesauce, and we had our lunch in the car while waiting for the roadwork.
We drove a ways more and stopped in Bluff, Utah. This was not origianally on our list of things to do, but we got talking to a family (from the same city and state we're from) in the hot tub the night before and they told us about it. We were so glad we chose to add it to our adventure. They had a very fun fort there that was well put together and free.
First we did a little scavenger hunt where we had to find certain items in each cabin. I think Maren and I had more fun than the kids with it, but they received free polished rocks for completing the hunt.
They had all sorts of things to do there.
We panned for gold (one of us wasn't as happy that day and wanted to just go swimming at the hotel).
Riding horses and wrangling cattle.
Handcarts.
Dress up clothes and covered wagons.
Ma and Pa with their young'ns.
It was a fun place for visitors of all ages. We spent a good hour there.
We then got in the car and headed on to Monument Valley. We didn't get there until close to 5pm and they were starting to close a lot of the roads around the monuments. We made it as far as the Three Sisters before we had to turn around.
The two sisters in front of the Three Sisters.
We got several pictures in front of the iconic monuments. I could just picture Marty McFly running away from Indians, young Indiana Jones riding horseback with his scout troop, or Ethan Hunt rock climbing the face on the cliff before he received his next mission.
Tom, Maren, Maxine and Lorelei.
It was a long drive back to Cortez and we picked up something for our late dinner (honestly, I don't remember what we did for dinner) and got back to the hotel in time for a quick dip in the pool before bed.
We were all exhausted after our long day.
