September So Far

Labor Day

Labor Day Tom took the kids and went on a hike with a bunch of his family.  Then they had a big brunch at his sister, Teresa’s house.  I stayed home and worked on preschool stuff.  It was so nice to have the house all to myself for several hours!

Tom took Jeff and went hunting with his brother, Bryce and his son, Tag the rest of the day.

I continued to get more work done at home.  Then that night the other three kids and I rode our bikes to a nearby park where Suzy’s family was having a gathering.  We all ate dinner and then afterwards participated in a game of baseball.  My sister, Aimee and her family came too.  I love how Caleb was helping Cedric bat.

School

The next day was my first day of preschool for this year.  I have a morning class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and an afternoon class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Mondays are my planning days and Fridays are my day to “catch up” on stuff around the house, grocery shopping, etc.

We took advantage of the warm weather and went swimming one last time (our August was more cool and wet and our September has been surprisingly hot).

Then Thursday, the 4th Cedric FINALLY started school!  He is in all day kindergarten and seems to really enjoy it right now.

He had to make a “me’' for the first day of school.  This was all his idea…

His buddy, Xander is in his class!

Now I have three kids in all day elementary and only one at home.  It was hard when I first sent Cedric to school, but Sophie’s doing well and I’m getting used to it.  However, the first day he was gone she came back from the babysitters (during preschool) and said “where Ceci (Cedric)?” and when I told her at school she said, “I go school too?”  She wore her backpack the whole day.

She’s a good helper while the kids are at school. :)

Potty Training

I took advantage of only having Sophie home and on a whim decided to potty train her that Friday.

By Sunday she was staying completely dry!

She still wears diapers at night and has the occasional accident.  But she is doing so good and caught on so quickly!

I was so proud of her!

The Utah State Fair

Monday, the 8th we did our yearly tradition of going to the State Fair.  Monday, kids were free and adults were the kids price, so we decided to go then.  When I left my house it was pouring rain and I was so worried about us being wet, muddy and cold.  However, by the time we got there the storm had passed and it was surprisingly dry!  It ended up being a very pleasant night.

First we went to do the fishing pond.  However, we had about a half hour wait, so we sat on the curb and ate our McDonald’s dinner while we waited.

The kids received some instructions.

Then it was fishing time!  Lily caught one right away.

Sophie wasn’t sure what to think of the worm.

She waited patiently until she caught one.

She was a bit afraid of the fish, but her cousin, Charlotte, who was watching, loved the fish!  She even gave it a kiss before they put it back into the water.

The boys each caught a fish too (we didn’t get a chance to get a picture of Jeff’s, but here he is by the pond).

We then met up with our friends, Tiffany and Kenny.  We had quite the group!

IMG_9163

We always do “The Little Hands On The Farm” because it’s free and fun.

We paid a few bucks a person to get into the all-you-can-eat ice cream tent.  They have ice cream venders from all over Utah and you can eat as much ice cream as you want as long as you’re in the tent.

They had music blaring and I think the kid had more fun dancing than eating.

The DJ did a dance competition and gave a “got milk?” hat to the best dancers.  Jeff was one of them!

Then we went and saw the animals.

The kids favorite display are the honey bees.  We even bought some honey and honeycomb from there.  Jeff really wants to be a bee keeper someday.

A tribute to Mom

September 11th marked the three year anniversary from my mom’s death.  The morning was a little rough, but most of the day was too busy to mourn much.  Aimee did come over and we listened to the funeral together.  That night, Tom and I went to the temple.

Then on the 17th it was her birthday.  It also just happened to be the day that Granite School District dedicated a plaque and a tree to Mom.  They are displayed at the new Granger High School.  Sophie and I went (luckily it was a Wednesday morning when I don’t have preschool).  It was such a neat honor to have that done for her!

The plaque says “In memory of the legacy and example of service rendered to the west-side communities and families.
