Camping in the Uintas

The first weekend in August (1-2) we went camping with some of Tom’s side of the family at Lost Lake in the Uintas.

We left Friday afternoon and drove through the beautiful Uinta Mountains.

We got up there with not much light left in the day, so Tom and Jeff quickly set up the tent.

 

Tom’s parents were there for just the evening.  His brother, Kurtis, his sister, Maren, Tim and Charlotte, his Sister Teresa and her son, Troy and later on, Tom’s brother, Eric were all there too.

We cooked hot dogs over the fire for dinner and had S’mores for dessert.

 

The kids had fun playing with the lanterns, glow sticks and fire once it started to get dark.

 

Sophie’s always a good girl when it comes to camping.

We surprised the kids with new sleeping bags!

It was quite cold that night and I got my usual three choppy hours of sleep in a tent.  The kids started to stir before 6, but we tried to keep them quiet in the tent as long as possible.

We kept blankets around us until the fire was built and the sun warmed us up.

We did omelets in a bag for breakfast, which was quite tasty.

After breakfast, Uncle Kurtis took the little boys to go fishing.  Jeff was just a little bit excited.

 

Then the rest of us wandered down to the beautiful lake a little later.

   

Lily also set up a fishing spot.

 

And soon Jeff caught one!

 

Sophie and Cedric thought it was fun to throw rocks into the lake, but it was scaring away the fish and they were getting muddy.

 

So I told them to build towers out of rocks, but they started to fight over them (because there weren’t thousands of other rocks everywhere).

So I finally headed back to our camp sight with them and they played on the iPads and watched movies in the van while I took down our tent. (Cedric was sad he didn’t get to fish, though.)

While we were away, Lily caught her own fish!

We ate Lunchables for our lunch, then headed home.

 

We were all tired and dirty!

One of the cons of camping… all that laundry!

Tom cooked up the kids fish that night for dinner and Lily really enjoyed it.

  

It was a fun little get-away.
