I’ve lost track of how many times we’ve gone camping this summer, but I think it’s the most we’ve ever done in one year! Tom’s getting pretty good at packing the van.
Last weekend was our trip to Yuba Lake. It was a very nice camp ground.
Sophie being silly while Tom set up the tent in the background.
We went with “Da Guys” again. Since we’d just been to St. George together the week before, it was amazing that four of the couples would want to hang out again so soon… and with kids this time! We must really like each other ;)
We did marshmallows and S’mores that night. The odd thing was how hot we were! After camping high in the Uinta’s a few weeks earlier, this campsite was warm since we weren’t in the mountains at all! I was sweating by the campfire.
We broke out some glow sticks too.
I think Sophie had a little too much sugar. She was so hyper! (the flash kept making her close her eyes)
We went to bed around 11pm, but that didn’t stop the kids from waking up at 6:30am. Since everyone else was still asleep I put them in the van with a movie and a container of Pringles and went back to sleep (or tried anyway).
Soon everyone was up and we did omelets in a bag for breakfast. It was so fun that all my kids had friends to hang out with.
We were right by the beach and the big kids had fun going down and exploring.
Josh and Rebekah have four cute foster kids that you instantly fall in love with. The little girls loved to do my hair. Here’s one of them doing my hair while I did Lily’s hair (I’m not allowed to post pictures of them on the internet, so just imagine these cute kids).
Soon we got settled on the beach.
The kids loved playing in the water and with all the floating rafts, etc.
But they were mainly excited about the boat! (Same one we used in Sand Hollow the weekend before).
Our family got to be on the first trip on the boat.
Lily was so excited to try the knee board and caught on quickly.
Sophie and Cedric were getting quite tired on the boat.
And soon Sophie fell asleep in my arms. She slept there for the rest of the ride. Nearly and hour!
The kids had fun jumping in and swimming in the lake.
And soon Cedric fell asleep under a thick, dark towel. I worried about him getting too hot, so I pulled the towel back and used Tom’s hat to shade him. We called him Captain Dead Guy the rest of the boat ride.
Tom did the wake surfing again.
We headed back to the beach to eat lunch. We left Captain Dead Guy on the boat to finish out his nap.
It was a good lunch and we had quite the setup.
The two Divas.
Then we just played on the beach while the other group went out on the boat (actually, Jeff and Lily went back out on the boat too).
The beach was more mud and rocks then sand, but that didn’t stop the kids from having fun.
We went back out on the boat for one more turn.
This time Jeff got up the courage to do the knee board. He took a long, slow ride, but loved it!
Then Cedric said he wanted to try. First Tom gave him some pointers.
Then we put him in the water. I think I was as nervous as he was as I watched us float away from my baby boy. He never got up on his knees, but had fun riding on his tummy. Afterward he said “that was better than Minecraft!”
Then it was my turn. I didn’t even get my hair wet. That’s my kind of water sport. :)
That night we got back to camp, cleaned up and just relaxed. Cedric loved ‘Uncle’ Dee.
Lily got quite sunburned from spending all day in the sun.
Cheri, Me, Angelyn and Rebekah all worked on getting dinner ready. Look at those giant bacon wrapped polish dogs!
It was a yummy dinner.
Tom put some special packets in the fire that made it turn different colors.
And Ang & Dee brought glow balloons and sticks for the kids to play with.
Sophie was complaining of being tired and the kids (or parents) didn’t have any problems falling right to sleep that night.
The next morning the kids slept in much better.
Lily, Sophie and I were up first from our tent. Lily took Sophie rabbit hunting while I helped make pancakes.
Then it was breakfast time.
Again, another hair train. I ended up doing six different girls’ hair that morning. Lily did mine.
The kids watched Rio 2 (again) in the van while Tom and I packed things up and took down the tent.
Sophie kept saying she was tired.
We soon had lunch with our leftovers and said our “good bye’s” to everyone.
Dee, Tom, Josh & Jeremy… Da Guys
Another fun, tiring weekend was behind us.
