Other August Events

I love the moments when my kids are all playing nicely together.
Or helping me out without being asked.  One night, Jeff was hungry so he decided to start making dinner for us!  He makes great scrambled eggs.
Jeff also got a new haircut, and I love it!
August was full of busy and exciting get-aways.  One of which was a weekend up to our family cabin.  It's so fun to relax, play games, socialize, enjoy the mountains, be with family and make memories.
We headed to the cabin on a Saturday afternoon the second weekend in August and stayed through Sunday evening.

The kids think it's fun to sleep at the cabin too.

We went to the Brighton Branch for Sacrament Meeting Sunday morning.  Tom and Mike blessed the sacrament. It was so cute, right after Tom finished the prayer Sophie proudly said "He's mine".

Sunday afternoon Tom, Lily, Cedric, Sophie and I hiked up to Doughnut Falls.  Jeff wanted to stay back with his cousins and do the zipline.  I was quite proud of how well my kids hiked.
When we got to the bottom of the falls Sophie and Cedric took their socks and shoes off and played in the river.
Tom took Lily and they continued to hike all the way to the falls.  You can see the hole behind Lily which is where Doughnut Falls gets it's name.

After the hike the kids enjoyed playing the traditional Candybar Game.  Sophie ended up being one of the winners!

We enjoyed some more fun before we had to clean up and head home.

We would've stayed at the cabin through Monday, which is what most of the family did, but Lily had to be up bright and early to catch the bus to Oakcrest.  A church camp for girls who just finished 7th grade.  Here she is with some of her friends.
Lily was gone for five days and when she got home, she was in tears.  I thought something bad had happened until she told me she was sad the week was over.  She loved Oakcrest!  Here she is sporting her new sweatshirt.

One of the nights while Lily was gone we went to a carnival put on by the kids dentist office.  We mainly stood in line for over an hour for face painting and super yummy corn dogs (all free), but the kids had fun.

Jeff even participated in the dunk tank!  It was a bit chilly to be dunked, but he did it anyway.

Another day Lily was gone, we went to her school, found her locker and left her notes inside, and visited a few of her classes.  The school year was starting August 23rd, which was the following Tuesday.  But we were going to be out of town on our cruise and they'd be missing the first week of school. So we also went to the elementary and met the boys' teachers too.

I will blog about our cruise in my next post.  But after our trip, the kids started school.  They started four days later than their classmates, but luckily didn't really miss much and didn't have any make-up work.
Lily is now an 8th grader!
 Jeff is a 5th grader.
and Cedric is a 2nd grader.

Our garden has started producing some yummy treats.  Although our garden itself didn't do fantastic, we did manage to get a few peas, tomatoes carrots and zucchini so far.  But our favorite's been the grapes and raspberries that grow along our back fence!

We made it to the pool one last time for the summer.  It's sad to see it come to an end.

My brother and sister did a campaign fundraiser variety show and I stopped in to see it.  It was well worth the stop!  They performed as if they were Donny and Marie Osmond and sang "I'm a little bit county, I want to be House of Reps".

The boys also got to do a bit of performing of their own.  Our nieghbor is a composer for movies and needed some young boy voices to do some of the sounds for the opening sequence to a movie he's working on.  Both boys helped with the "woahs" and "ahhs" he needed.  It's called "Hello, I Love You" and will probably come out around Valentine's Day.
Stay tuned for our biggest event of the Summer,,,
