Sickness and Other Things

A little over a week ago I built a hut in the basement with blankets and tables.  The kids played in the hut for days! Here are the boys wearing their bear hats playing bear cave.
The past few weeks we've had snow and record cold weather.  Lily was coming home from school one day and some icicles fell right on her face!  She got scratched up pretty bad from them.
My friend, Tiffany and I went out the week before last to get pedicures and just have a girls night.  Her husband was out of town, so Tom was so nice to watch all eight kids for us!  We didn't think through the fact that we'd have to wear the cheap little flip flops out in the snow after our pedi's!
Sophie is now 13 months old and has six teeth.  Four on the bottom and two on the top.  I tried to get a picture of her top teeth...
Although she still crawls a lot, Sophie is walking so much more now!  She still only goes short distances, but can now stand for a few minutes on her own.
She also loves to hold our hand and walk around too.
She also loves to listen to music on our earphones.
The kids have fun pushing her around on her new bike.  Sophie loves it!
Last Sunday I attempted two pig tails on Sophie.  She looks so grown up!

On Wednesday night, Sophie kept waking up with a fever.  Our normally happy baby was sick.
And she's been sick for four days.  Poor girl!
This has pretty much been how she's looked since Thursday.
She just wants to be held,
won't eat much (this is what she does when I try to feed her)

and is so lethargic.
She just cries, falls asleep or lays there in our arms.
Friday night she took a good nap and seemed to have perked up enough that we still took her with us to the Grizzlies hockey game.  We had some free tickets, and even an extra one for one of Jeff's friends to come.
We saw a monster truck out front.
The kids enjoyed themselves (well, the older kids anyway).

And they all got excited whenever Grizzbee came by.
However, Sophie woke up the next day still sick.  Last night we had plans to go to the University of Utah gymnastics meet with some friends.  Tom, Lily and I went to dinner first with the group while our sweet neighbor, Kylee babysat our sick baby and boys for us. Then Tom went home to take over and Lily and I went on to the gymnastics meet.  She had fun with her friend, Sammy who sat with us too and especially liked getting Dippin' Dots to eat.  I forgot to take any pictures though.
Yesterday I bought an onion and cut it in half.  I put one half next to Cedric (he's at the end of a cold too) and Sophie while they slept last night.  I read somewhere that onions absorb our germs and can help us get rid of them faster in our homes.  I tried it with Lily a few weeks back when she had a cough, and instead of the cough lasting for weeks, it only lasted for days.  I'm not sure if the onion idea really works or not, but it's worth a shot.  However, our house smelled so bad last night!  Whenever I walked into the kids rooms it smelled like B.O..  I hope it helps somehow, otherwise that was a whole lot of stink for nothin'!
Today Sophie's been a little better.  In the bathtub this morning it was the first I've seen her laugh or smile in days.  She's still not fully recovered so I stayed home from church with her and Cedric.  But it's nice to see she's starting to act like her normal self for a few moments at a time.
I hate when my kids are sick.  I notice how much more worn out I am too.  The one fun thing about having a sick baby though, is all the snuggles.
Get well soon, Sophie!

Poor thing! We have been sick too. Carson had a sore throat/fever last weekend. Parker got it Wed-Fri and Carson woke up throwing up today. It never ends! Plus i have had 3-5 kids absent every day since Christmas break was over. This winter has been awful. We'll have to play when we're all feeling better!
