Lily's Ninth Birthday

Wow, I can't believe my baby girl is nine years old!  Yesterday was Lily's birthday, but she had many celebrations throughout the month.
We did a little party with some of Tom's family a few weeks ago to celebrate the August birthdays.
Lily's cousin, Savannah had just turned 16 and Lily was about to turn 9.

Then last Saturday we celebrated her birthday by going to Cowabunga Bay.  On our kids even birthdays they get a friend party and on their odd birthdays they get a family party, but can choose a more expensive activity.  This year, since she was turning 9 it was just our family.  We also invited my niece, Aubree to come and help keep an eye on a kid or two too.  The kids all had fun, but I swear I spent the whole time looking for lost children.  We seemed to always be missing one.  I didn't eve get to go on any of the big water slides :(

On Sunday we had another mini party with my side of the family.  Lily was so excited to get the Dizzy Dancers she wanted.
Then on Monday my dad took her on her birthday date.  They went to Sconecutter for dinner and then shopping for Lily's present.  This has been a tradition with my parents since they started when Lily turned three.  Last year Lily was the last grandchild to go on a birthday date with Grandma Sherri before she died.  However, my dad's been good to keep up the tradition.
Lily picked out two big-eyed beanie dogs.
Then yesterday was the big day.  Ironically the three oldest got invited to a neighbor girl's birthday party.  Tom stayed home to help get some things caught up around the house, and then that night we did our little family party.
Lily picked pork tamales for dinner.  However, when filling up the pan with water to steam them with I started to cry.  Whenever we have pork tamales it reminds me of a really windy, rainy Sunday when I was cooking tamales and all the water boiled out of the pan.  I didn't realize it and couldn't figure out why I could smell burning when the tamales looked fine.  By the time I realized what had really happened (thanks to Tom), I had scorched my brand new pan, I was mad.  My whole house smelled like burnt pan.  I will never forget that night.  Because that was the same night my parents got in their car accident and I received the news that my mom had died.  I cried again last night when I was cleaning that pan.  Sometimes the pain still comes back.  Even on a happy day.
Anyway, after dinner we sang and let Lily open her presents.
She wanted a money cake.  When I was little my mom would make cakes and wrap coins in foil and hide them in the batter.  When you eat your cake you pick out the coins and get to keep the money.  So this year I made her a money cake.
She got some cute clothes (some homemade) and some other fun things from Tom's parents, another Dizzy Dancer, some treats and some new roller blades!
After finishing cake and ice cream Lily had to go try them out.
I love my Lily.  Here are 9 things I love about her...
1- She has a sweet spirit and a natural desire to do what's right.
2- She is very creative and will come up with neat inventions, projects or ideas all the time.
3- She is a good big sister and loves her siblings.
4- She's a smart girl and a good reader.
5- She's at a great age. Not a sassy teen yet, but not a little girl anymore either.
6- She is very talented at playing the piano, acting and singing.
7- She loves animals, real or pretend.
8- She still loves to give her parents hugs.
9- She is a good helper around the house and rarely complains.
Happy Birthday Lily!
