January Fun

2017 is here!  I can't believe it.  I still remember when we celebrated the new year and it was 1990.  It doesn't feel that long ago.  One of my new year's resolutions is to do better at keeping up on my blog.  So here's some events that happened in January...
Jeff's hair is getting so long, we decided to put it in rollers one night.
It sure curled his hair good!
When we brushed it out, it looked and felt just like sheep wool.  We washed it out right away.
We've had a very cold and snowy winter.  Sophie kept saying she had never built a snowman before, so one day, we built one together.  I'm not as young as I used to be, and it resulted in a hurt back.  But Sophie loved it!
In fact, on another day, after we'd gotten a lot of snow, Sophie, Jeff, Cedric went out on a Sunday night and had a snowball fight.
Our niece, Aubree left this month for her LDS mission.  She reported into the MTC on January 18th and will be leaving for Bangkok, Thailand in March.  I'm so proud of Aubree and will miss her.  She was my #1 babysitter when my kids were younger and so we have a special relationship with her.
My kids are always hoping they can help with my preschool classes.  Well, they lucked out.  For some reason they had the Tuesday after MLKJ Day off of school (end of term?) and so they got to help in my classes.  I wish they were that eager to help me all the time. :)

Donald Trump was sworn into office this month, and although I'm not super excited about it, I'm disappointed with a lot of the reactions I have seen from people.  Some people have even gone as low as to bully Trumps ten year old son, Barron on social media.  I think Barron looks a lot like Jeff and it makes me sad to see this happening.  Especially if I imagine my own ten year old son getting bullied like that.

Another New Year's goal we have is to do date nights with our kids.  So each  month we take one of them out on a date, just the three of us.  They pick the activity and what we do that night.  Sophie got to be the first to go on a date and picked a bounce house.  Well, our night ended up quite crazy... Tom had to work late and my sister, Aimee had called me up at the last minute to see if I wanted to go see Kinky Boots with her that night, because Matt was sick.  I really wanted to go, but I knew Sophie's date was important, and she was SOOO excited for it, I couldn't cancel on her.  So we found a bounce place closer to Tom's work, we were to meet there and then I'd take off a few minutes early to meet Aimee.  It ended up that Tom and I only saw each other for about ten minutes by the time he got there and I had to leave, but Sophie didn't mind and had a ball!  In fact, she and Tom didn't even get home until 9:30  that night!
Aimee and I had fun at Kinky Boots.  It was an interesting musical to say the least.
Mike and Karyn were there too!
I usually don't go downtown too often, but this weekend was different.  I'd gone down Friday afternoon with Grandma Kay and Sophie to meet Tom for lunch (Grandma Kay's hair appointment isn't too far from downtown and Sophie didn't have speech class that day, so it worked out well).  Then I went into Salt Lake again that night for Sophie's bounce house date and for Kinky Boots.  I got home about 11:30pm from that, then woke up the next morning and got ready to head into downtown again!  This time with my friends, Tiffany and Chris to get mani/pedi's.  Unfortunately, it had snowed a lot that night and downtown was not plowed at all!  The roads were terrible!  And we even got stuck once and had some guys help push us out.  We also had to traipse through the snow in our flip flops, but it made for an unforgettable adventure.
