TNT: What we’ve been up to…

We’ve been busy! Here’s a glimpse as to what we’ve been up too…

In May, I had my preschool field trip to Wheeler Farm. Sophie got to come with us one of the days and Cedric got to go with both classes!

Jeff went to his first pack meeting and LOVES scouts! His favorite day of the week is Tuesdays now.

Tom and I were on the food committee for our ward mystery date night. We did a 1940’s theme, so Tiffany, Chris and I all dressed up as Rosie the Riveter (the three of us and our husbands were the food committee).

We went to my cousin’s real estate barbecue at Murray park. There was awesome food, face painting, treats, bounce houses, etc. An awesome party!

Sophie is really into princesses. She loves to wear dresses like a princess and twirls like a ballerina princess.

I survived another year of preschool (I believe it was my ninth year teaching).

Cedric Graduated from Miss Tami’s Preschool! I’m so proud of my son/student. He is a smart boy and is excited to start kindergarten. He got the award for most creative, because he’s always saying or doing very creative things.

Lily has been part of the Theatre Troupe at school. They put on a cute play (same day as preschool graduation and Jeff’s birthday).

Lily was Goldilocks and the magic mirror. She has a great singing voice and did a marvelous job belting out her solos!

Our poor peach tree died (it was the only fruit tree I actually liked in our yard). Tom chopped/tour it down himself.

The kids both participated in the school fun run. I helped as a volunteer and Tom ran with them. Both Lily and Jeff got 4th place for their grade & gender in the mile race!

The week after preschool ended we did a yard sale at Tom’s parents’ house. De-cluttering all the toys was quite the chore! Although, it was fun for the kids to discover toys that have been put away for a while. We also did well on our sales.

Lily thought this big butterfly was so pretty! She was chasing it around with the camera during the yard sale.

One scary thing that happened the other day… I had to run Jeff to a birthday party and Tom was golfing, so I left Lily home to babysit (I do that often for short trips). However, somehow our house alarm was set and Sophie went into the garage. She set off the alarm and it started to beep. Lily knew the code to turn it off, but it must’ve been too late, because the security company came on over our speaker and started asking if everything was ok. Lily said it was, but when asked for the security code word, she didn’t know what it was. She called me to let me know, and I said the security company would call me if there were any questions. Well, I guess they decided to call the police instead. So poor Lily was jumping on the tramp with Sophie when all of a sudden, two uniform police officers come wandering around to the back yard! She said she tried to stay really brave and told them she was almost 11 and when her birthday was, so they knew she was old enough to babysit. They went in and checked the house out (which is embarrassing, because it was a total mess), then Lily called me and had me talk to one of the officers. They said everything was fine and would let the kids get back to playing. When I got home (about five minutes later) Lily was crying and said how scary it was. Cedric said he thought they’d take him and put him in jail. I assured the kids that the police were there to help and Lily did everything right in the circumstance. But she’s a lot more nervous to babysit now.

I went up to our family cabin to help deep clean and get it ready for summer. While up there, my aunts, Wendy, Nancy and cousin, Andrea and I were blocked in the driveway. There had been a bear sighting and the department of wildlife services was trying to catch the bear. It was right across the street from our cabin! When we were ready to leave, they had just tranquilized the bear and had hauled it to their truck parked at our cabin. They let us take pictures with and of the bear, and even pet it! Since bears are rare in that canyon and it was sedated, I thought it was pretty cool. We were even interviewed by channel 4 news.

Both Jeff and Lily won awards at school. Both got excellent attendance, and Jeff got excellent academics. He even got straight 4’s (A’s) on his report card! Lily got an award for Theatre Troupe too and also worked really hard on her report card.

The kids had some great teachers this year. We’re going to miss Mrs. P and Mrs. R.

I also helped with today’s field day. It was the last day of school and they just rotate through different activities and spend the whole day outside getting wet and having fun! I volunteered to help with the bounce house because they separated the activities into grades 1,2,3 and 4,5,6. The bounce house was the only one that both of my kids would go to, so it was fun to help out with both of their groups. It was hot, though and I have the sunburn to prove it!

Another thing we did in May was take pictures of the kids at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Tom’s sister, Maren was our photographer and we planned on using these pics for Jeff’s baptism announcement (that’s why there’s so many of my cute, photogenic boy).

We took pictures with all the kids as well. At first, Sophie was very cooperative, but that wore off quickly. I think we still got some pretty good ones, though…
