Day 8 - Friday, April 5th
It was our last full day in Oceanside. Again, we hung out and slept in and started packing up.
For lunch we decided to go somewhere with a playground, so we drove to Chick-fil-A.
Sophie discovered her bellybutton.
...and swimming again. We all loved the hot tub.
...and played games.
That night we went back to Ruby's Diner again. Sophie loved eating a lemon while we waited.
There was a very brave pelican that Cedric thought was fake, until he touched him and the bird nipped at him. Here's Lily with the pelican.
That night we played some more games. Mormon Bridge anyone?
Afterward, Tom and I went and sat in the hot tub one final time.
Saturday we started our trek home.
Even after going different ways on the freeway, we ironically passed Matt & Aimee's van quite a ways down the road (that's them in the background).
We stopped off for lunch at a Dairy Queen in Baker California. The kids meals were $5.99! Not cheap.
We only made the one stop before reaching our destination for the night, St. George, Utah.
Sophie got another new bed. She did NOT enjoy the ride in it to her room though.
We went to The Pizza Factory that night for dinner. Although my dad was taking his turn with the stomach flu that had hit several of our group, his (now) fiance, Suzy joined us for dinner. She drove down from Salt Lake and met us in St. George.
We pulled out the hide-a-bed and the kids thought that was the coolest thing they'd ever seen! They all wanted to play on it.
Of course, we had to go swimming again.
Sophie had gotten used to swimming by this point.
And she loved the hot tub!
Day 10 - Sunday, April 7th
It was the final day of the trip and time to head home.
We stopped off in Beaver for lunch at Dairy Queen again. Wouldn't you know it? The kids meals were only $3.99 here. For some reason Sophie was a bit fussy and didn't eat much lunch.
We made another stop in Nephi because Cedric had to use the bathroom. It was a good thing too, because right in the middle of the gas station store, Sophie started throwing up all over Tom! It was quite an embarrassing scene, but I was grateful it was not in the car. No wonder she was fussy at lunch.
Sophie seemed fine afterwards and soon fell asleep.
We got home and saw that the Easter Bunny had come while we were gone. Sophie threw up two more times and by midnight, Cedric had started it. Tom and I got sick later too, not sure if it was the same bug or not. But in our group of 23, over half of us had gotten sick either during or after the trip. It was a nasty little bug!
Now we're home and back to reality. But we will never forget the fun trip we had to San Diego and the memories that we made.
Thanks Dad/Grandpa!
