As if this wasn't enough the three of them decided to go for the Coast to Coast Challenge. This is when one runs the Disneyland half marathon in the same calendar year as the Goofy Challenge. For this they got two more metals, the Disneyland Castle for the half, plus the Castle, with Walt & Mickey for the Coast to Coast Challenge.
Unfortunately I did not attend the January trip, but I did tag along with Tom for the second trip. We left the kids with three great families for our whirlwind weekend. We left about 9pm Friday night and drove through the night. Between Tom's sister, Maren and her husband, Tim we took turns sleeping and driving. We also caravanned with Tom's sister, Teresa, her four kids and Tom's brother, Eric. The drive down wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. It was hard to get comfortable to sleep, but we managed.
My driving shift was from about 4am to 6am. Now I'm not normally a morning person, but I actually enjoyed the quiet drive, my book on my Ipod, and my bag of snacks.
We arrived in Anaheim about 8:30am. We went to IHOP for breakfast, then over to the Park to pick up the race packets. Unfortunately, I wanted to just go to the hotel and take a nap, but we couldn't check in until 3pm, so it was off to the beach for several hours. The beach was very crowded, and I'm not a big fan of the salt water. I did enjoy reading my book and collecting sea shells for the kids on the beach. Although I also got very sunburned on my shoulders!
However, Tom loves the beach.
Exhausted we made it to the hotel with enough time to shower, take a quick nap, then head off to the Dodgers game that night. They one the game too!
We enjoyed the all-you-can eat ballpark food (mmm, all the hot dogs you can eat! Pass the Tums!).
We went to bed that night very tired. It had felt like a very long day. Unfortunately for the runners, they had to be up by 3:30am to go do their half marathon. The rest of us (me, my two brothers-in-law and Teresa's four kids) were going to go cheer the runners through the finish line, but when we heard we had to catch the shuttle by 7:30am, we decided to just stay at the hotel, sleep in, and wait for the runners to finish and come back. The runners were fine with that, and we were not only happy to sleep in, but glad we didn't have to try to keep four kids under control in the crowd.
The runners did great, with a time of 2hrs 42minutes for the half. After the runners cleaned up we headed of to Disneyland.
We only had a one day pass, and wanted to make the most of it. Luckily it wasn't too crowded, even with the marathon that day. We tried to get fast passes for all the big rides, and the longest line we stood in was about 30minutes. Not too bad for Disneyland.
In fact, we did everything we wanted to by 8:00pm and decided to leave, go get dinner at Denny's (much cheaper than any food in the park) and go to bed. Teresa's youngest, who is only five was exhausted and fell asleep at Dennny's. Funny enough it was his first time at Disneyland and he kept saying "I want to go back to the hotel". We did keep things moving fast that day. There wasn't much time just standing around. All of us were tired, but we were pleased with how much we had crammed into one day.
The next morning we got up at 6am, hoping to leave by 6:30am. However, we left an hour late, hit traffic around Spanish Fork and took a "shortcut" to avoid the traffic that actually ended up putting us another hour behind. So after picking up our van at Teresa's house, picking up the three kids who were scattered between Eagle Mountain, South Jordan and West Valley, we didn't get home until 10pm! It was a very go-go-go trip, but it was a ton of fun.
I'm so proud of Tom and his accomplishments!

First of all, does Tom normally sleep in the car with a smile on his face?
Secondly, VERY cute swimsuit!
Thirdly, I was tired just reading about it all.
