Sophie turned three years old on December 17th!
I can’t believe my baby is not a baby anymore.
She’s been receiving presents all throughout the month. Nana gave her an early birthday present, and Lily a late one. Matching jackets and dresses!
For the past several months we’ve been preparing Sophie that her binky’s are going away. I tell her “three year old’s don’t have binky’s. We’ll give them to a real baby”. And she’d constantly repeat it back. However, ten days before her birthday she was biting on the binky and it was starting to tear. I asked her if I could cut it and she said yes. As soon as I sniped it off, I felt immediate regret. She tried to suck on it and said “don’t cut it”. It was too late. She was a bit upset. However, that night she did amazingly well and went to bed after only crying for ten minutes. She cried the next night a little longer, but it wasn’t too bad. By the third night, she was fine. I couldn’t believe how easy it was!
She still wanted to give her binky to a real baby, so the following Sunday, we gave it to baby Jason (I snuck it back later to put in her special box).
She’s doing so well and other than being more attached to her blankets, she’s adjusted quite well.
It’s crazy that it’s mid-December and has been warm enough to still play outside without a coat!
Sophie’s been so excited for her birthday. Every day she’d ask “where’s my birthday?” and I’d show her on the calendar what day it was and how many more days until her birthday. We planned on doing a little party on Monday, the 15th when we got together to welcome my brother, Nate home from Germany (he’s visiting for Christmas), so I tried to explain to her that Monday would be her cake and presents and Wednesday was her real birthday with balloons (or as she calls them, bababoons).
So Monday came and we had a great time at Hire’s with Nate and the family.
We took a few minutes to sing and have Sophie blow out her candles.
Then she opened her presents.
She got some ponies and a Barbie girl from Grandpa Kent and Grandma Suzy.
From us she got a new outfit and underwear and Frozen dolls. She was so excited!
Her dinner mainly consisted of frosting, a sucker, German chocolate, fries and some of a hot dog. Lucky it was her birthday.
When we got home that night, she had fun playing with her new toys (so did Lily and Cedric).
Wednesday was Sophie’s real birthday. Unfortunately, she wasn’t feeling very good that day. Our elf on the shelf, Dolfie made her a paper airplane for her birthday. She loved it, despite her “I just woke up and I’m not feeling good” face.
So since I promised her balloons on her birthday, I went to get some Tuesday night after she fell asleep. I should’ve gone earlier. Everywhere was closed, except Walmart. They have the worst customer service when it comes to their service desk, so it took over a half hour just to get six balloons blown up. And they were all out of the birthday Mylar balloons.
Sophie was still excited non-the-less.
However, by the afternoon, the balloons weren’t doing so well. Sophie just thought that made them more fun to play with.
I asked her what she wanted to do that morning and she wanted to take a bubble bath in the big tub. So she played for about an hour in the tub while I got ready and cleaned the bathroom. It worked out good.
That night she got to open her present from her siblings. More princess Barbies (Jeff only wanted to photo bomb the picture, so he’s not in it).
We love our baby big girl.
She picked hot dogs (again) for dinner that night.
She got a few other presents from Aunts and Uncles throughout the month, as well as a card and a few dollars from her great-grandparents.
Here are three things I love about Sophie.
1. She makes us happy and is my little buddy (a true mama’s girl).
2. She has the cutest, most dramatic facial expressions. I love watching her talk or sing. She’s pretty smart too!
3. She is a good sleeper and hardly ever complains when she has to go to bed, usually she begs to do so. And she likes to hug and cuddle.
Happy Birthday Sophie!
